The Award

 

: Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya:

To commemorate the birth centenary of the renowned freedom fighter, veteran Hindi poet and honoured Journalist Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi, the Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal was set up by the Act No. 15, "The Madhya Pradesh Makhanlal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patrakarita Vishwavidyalaya Sansthan Adhiniyam, 1990" of Govt. of Madhya Pradesh.

The University was formally inaugurated by the then Vice-President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma on 16th January 1991. This University was setup with an objective of providing high quality and innovative education, training and research in the fields of Mass Communication, Journalism, Library and Information Science, Public Relations and Information Technology (Computer Applications).

The University believes in the unique synthesis of theoretical and practical knowledge. The aim of the University is not only to create an army of career seeker persons but also to produce professionals who are committed and accountable to the society and the nation as a whole. The Vice President of India is the Visitor of the University. The all-powerful General Council chaired by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh governs the University. The Council has distinguished dignitaries amongst its members including the State Finance Minister, the State Public Relations Minister, State Education Minister, nominee of Parliament, Chairman of the Press Council of India, representatives from various State Governments, Eminent Journalists, Media Experts and Scholars.

The Director General of the University is the Secretary of this Council. The University has an Academic Council, which is the supreme academic body, maintaining the standards of course, curriculum, instruction, education, and examination of the University. The Council also approves all the courses and governs the academic standards and offers the degrees or diplomas. The Director General is the convener of the Academic Council; further Executive Director and Heads of University faculties are the members of this Council. Further the University is a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities, London and of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University Grants Commission has also issued a memorandum recognizing the existence of the University vide circular No. 94/02/PPI dated 27/1/92.
